Shine PosterShine is a semi-biographical movie about Austrian pianist David Helfgott and his life long goal to make his father proud of his amazing musical talent. Growing up both my sister and I took piano lessons and my grandfather performed regularly with his accordion. I had seen the trailer and went into the movie thinking that I would be nervously watching the movie, just waiting for something to pop out at me. I Spit on Your Grave PosterSo what do you get when you put a cast of five (yes, only five) unknown actors, a script with no more than four (yes, only four) pages of dialog, and a $80,000 (yes, thousand not million) budget together? You get a a movie with less substance than most short films on YouTube and a whole bunch of gratuitous nudity and violence. In fact, if it weren’t for the gratuitous scenes and the “video nasty” labeling put on the movie in the early 1980′s I have no doubt this movie would have fallen to the wayside like so many other low-budget horror flicks.
