In the Loop Movie PosterThe US and UK governments are looking to get into a war with a non-disclosed country, but the only problem is that not everyone is sure that a war is the best action. While this topic may hit home with the events of the past administrations of both countries and the events currently happening in Iraq, this movie has nothing to do with actual current politics and everything to do with the hilarious side of political power moves and bumbling fools. Very much in the light of most British comedies, “In the Loop” is not a movie for everyone, but the timing, support cast acting and script are brilliant if you can get past the vulgarity.

Movie Review: Bullitt

Bullitt Movie PosterOften talked about for “the chase”, Bullitt is much more than a car case movie. The movie follows detective, Lieutenant Frank Bullitt (played by Steve McQueen) through the investigation behind a murder of a star witness in a mob case.

Before I talk about the movie itself, I think the intro credits deserve some attention – after all I am a design geek. The intro credits equate to a minimalists take on the intro credits to a James Bond film. Through the use of layered scenes and typography, the intro credits are able to build the back story leading to the beginning of the movie without having to have any dialog.

The Road MovieA screenplay adaptation of the award winning book of the same name by Cormac McCarthy(also the author of No Country for Old Men), The Road is a story of a man and his son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where all life is dead or slowly dying. Unlike most movies in this genre, The Road does not address the reason for the current state of the earth, not does it offer a way to change the horrible living conditions of the remaining survivors.

Movie Review: Metropolis

MetropolisHow ideal to wacth and review Metropolis the day after an election; a movie that depicts the effects of overlooking the working class and how the people can be convinced of non-truths strictly because they have a leader that they blindly put their faith in. Sound a little familiar? The movie was originally created in Germany during the uprising of the Nazi political movement and at face value portrays the evils of the mechanical revolution. However, if one digs deeper a few different plots arise. For those not familiar with Fritz Lang’s masterpiece, the official summary is a good starting point:
